MSI CR720 laptop - Reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 Dutch
My mother wants to give her old laptop (MSI CR720) to her godchild and
she has asked me to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit Dutch. Unfortunately, pressing F3 during boot doesn't seem to do the trick and there doesn't seem to be an installation DVD, a backup (system restore or otherwise) or recovery partition. I've been doing some searching and came across this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7 https://www.microsoft.com/nl-nl/software-download/windows7 I have the license key, so I entered it, but no luck: | Error | | The product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by | the device manufacturer. Please contact the device manufacturer for | software recovery options. I'm aware I can contact MSI (for which I have to register), but I consider this as my last option. Did some more searching and found some stuff about ei.cfg. Now, I have the installation disc of my own computer. It's Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit English. Can I use this to install a legal copy of Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit Dutch on that laptop? If so, how? -- s|b |

You might be able to create and burn the recovery DVD from the working system if it has not already been done in the past. If the following does bring up the menu to create the recovery media don't actually start it unless you have a blank DVD in the drive as I believe you only get one try and then the menu option disappears. To determine which options are available to create recovery media, click Start ( ), click All Programs, and then click Recovery Manager. If Recovery Disc Creation displays in the list, you can use discs only. If Recovery Media Creation displays in the list, you can use either discs or a USB flash drive. HP PCs - Creating Recovery Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a ... https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01867124 If it creates the DVD for you I'm not sure if it will do the Dutch language install or not. If it creates the recovery DVD I'd give it a try and see if it's possible, if not at least it will do a fresh install of the English version even though that is not what is desired. The alternative is to contact HP to have them send you a DVD for around $30 but make sure they say it supports the Dutch install before you pay for it. |

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit English installation DVD. I installed Windows using my installation DVD and - to my surprise - I could successfully activate it by using the original license key of the laptop. Windows Update is working as well, so I guess that's it? There's only one "problem": Windows is in English, but I'm sure my nephew won't have much problems with that... -- s|b |

I believe I have located where you can download the Dutch version in OEM or retail. Go to this link (https://heidoc.net/joomla/technology...owall=&start=5) minus the leading and ending () symbols. Once there download and run the "Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool" That program will then allow you to pick the version of windows 7 you need, Home, Pro as well as Retail or OEM. You also need to pick the language you want it to be in, as in Netherland for Dutch. The program will make you wait while it verifies they have the ISO and then will allow you to download the ISO from them (for free). Burn the ISO to a DVD and install it like you already did with the English version. I found trying to download an English version the first time will help you understand the screens unless you are able to read Dutch as once you pick the language of choice the screen prompts switch to that language. Stick a copy of the DVD in a sandwich bag and stick it inside the case of the PC for when the hard drive crashes in the future. Good Luck. |

Just realized the PC in question was a laptop so while it's possible to hide a CD inside one of them it's usually not something you would want to do. Oh well, at least you can get the Dutch version for the box. If nothing else send the laptop "as is" with the English version and send along a copy of the Dutch version with instructions on how he can install it himself, providing he is old enough to know how to install Windows himself. |

You should be able to go into the language and localization settings and switch the default language to Dutch, which may require downloading the required files to do so. Then just make sure that Dutch is at the top of the list of languages to make it the default language. As you've already discovered as long as the install disc you use matches the current version of Windows an a device it'll work. The good thing is that you'll avoid getting all of the bloatware that the PC manufacturer usually includes. The bad thing is that you may have to go to the manufacurer's website to get the correct device drivers for the device's hardware. |

Once connected to the Internet all drivers were successfully installed. Also, a small miracle, my mother still had the installation CD with the drivers. Last, but not least, the product was still supported by MSI: https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/CR720.html#support_download -- s|b |

I'm not 100% sure of his English (he'll learn), but I'm sure he isn't able to reinstall Windows. And he doesn't have to: first thing I did after all Windows Updates were done was to install Macrium Reflect Free. This way, he can always start from the beginning. I only need him to copy those images to an external hdd. -- s|b |
