Then I just copy over the old PST. Seemed to work for me. |

So why not use it to connect to your network (with whatever type of adapter needed for your network which you didn't describe) and transfer the file via Ethernet? |

Hi I have an ASUS VIVOTAB SMART (ME400C) 64GB WINDOWS tablet How do I import my Outlook.pst file from my PC Initially, I was going to tell you to swear off Wifi and file sharing setup. After looking at the available connectors, and what a mess it would be to connect up the hardware, I'm thinking now that Wifi is the way to go. If your desktop PC is fed by a wireless router, maybe you can join the tablet to the other PC over wireless. I find the three USB connectors on my laptop are "perfect". I would hate to be stuck with just one connector. And a microUSB at that. I'm having trouble finding a microUSB adapter I like. It kinda stopped me dead in my tracks. Now Wifi looks like more fun (ugh!). Paul |

PLEASE..... I know how to copy paste/replace files. I was asking how to get the .pst file into the tablet, do I put it on a flash storage card & import from there? This sounds fine. You're going to need an adapter from MicroUSB to USB, if using a USB key. But a note of caution - found this... http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/asus...d-6-print.html (Page 6 of issues, maxwolfie, 09-18-2013, 05:59 AM) My ME400C doesn't seem to hold a connection to a USB thumb drive under load for anymore than about 2-3 minutes. Basically, if I try to copy a large file it will time out half way through and the drive will disappear. The same happens when I try to create a USB Recovery Drive out of Windows 8 - it will stop about 3-4 minutes in. I can, however, copy to my hearts content if the unit is plugged into a powered USB hub. I have yet to test it without any power, but it is working fine with power. I am also yet to actually try it just idling (not under any file copy load). I am using the same OTG cable in both cases (OTG USB drive and OTG. USB hub USB drive). What could this be? This is a microUSB to OTG adapter, and is different than the charging cable Asus provided - the charging cable has the wrong polarity on the USB end. This one is female, for OTG (On The Go) USB device usage. But the above posting by "maxwolfie" suggests the tablet doesn't keep the port powered long enough, for long file transfer sessions. http://www.amazon.com/Micro-USB-OTG-.../dp/B00D8YZ2SA Maybe another option would be to put the file on a microSD and transfer the file that way to the tablet. I have a USB to microSD/SD adapter I got for about $10-$15 a few years ago, and that's how I get SD from camera into desktop PC. You could use one of those on your desktop PC, then eject the microSD chip, and plug it into the slot on the Asus. You're not likely to have a power issue with that. It's even possible that Maxwolfie's problem could have been solved by a trip to Device Manager, to change the power policy on the device so it stays powered or something. But that seems pretty far-fetched and unnecessary. It's just as likely to be a hardware issue with the power regulation on the USB port. I hope your tablet works better than what I'm seeing in that tabletpcreview thread. Paul |

There are file manager apps for Android tablets that can connect to your desktop over WiFi. That's how I usually transfer files to or from my tablet. I use ES File Explorer (free, or the free version, I forgot which). I think another, File Manager HD, will do the same. I'd hazard a guess that others will too. To my taste, the user interface is not all that clear, but it works :-) -- Gene E. Bloch (Stumbling Bloch) |

I was asking how to get the .pst file into the tablet, do I put it on a flash storage card & import from there? It would be simple if you had an SD/microSD/miniSD card slot in the tablet, and a card slot in your other PC. Just use it to transport. I have 3 regular PC's with a SD card reader that plugs into any usb. My tablet uses a microSD card that came with an SD card looking adapter for the microSD to fit in. This makes moving so simple. I put the SD card (with micro in it) into my big PC and copy 64G of data to it then insert micro into tablet and there is the data to disperse. But heck, wi-fi if you can get it working, bluetooth if you can get that working, hell I've even used 7zip (or any other) to split large files into pieces and email them to people, then join them at the other end. It's a bumpy ride but it get's there. A second yahoo/gmail/hotmail account wouldn't be hard to setup on the tablet for this. |

I know how to copy paste/replace files. I was asking how to get the .pst file into the tablet, do I put it on a flash storage card & import from there? According to the web page previously mentioned, the tablet has the following connectivity: - one micro-USB port - one micro-SD card reader - WLAN (wifi) - Bluetooth So it's up to you whether you use a USB flash drive or an SD card. Which media type do you already have? Or are you going to go buy an SD flash card or a USB flash drive? What port types do you have on the source computer (the PC from which you want to copy the files)? Do you have a card reader on the PC? If not, are you going to buy one and install it in the PC? If you don't have a card reader on the PC then does the PC have USB ports? Apparently you expected all respondents to divine what you have for hardware. Yes, you identified the tablet but it is unlikely in an OS group that only respondents with that specific hardware will respond, so instead we had to go lookup the specs to discover what connectivity was available in the tablet. As for the PC, that remains a complete blank. Tis likely you PC does have USB ports (and probably standard sized ones) so that's you're best choice to physically transfer the storage medium between computers. However, your tablet doesn't have a full-size USB port. It has a micro USB port. That means you'll have to find an adapter to go from micro to normal USB connector, like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0911-_-Product Personally I would go with an adapter *cable* to eliminate stress on the ports, adapter, and flash drive which could break them. You certainly don't want to break the micro USB port in the tablet since that is the only USB connector you have there. An adapter cable looks like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-154-_-Product Of course, you'll still have to buy the USB flash drive if you don't already have one. We don't know what removable storage media types you have, if any. Are you going to repeatedly use sneakernet to transfer files between the tablet and PC or might you want to connect them via a network? Then you don't have to wear out or risk breaking the USB ports, especially the micro USB port in the tablet, to physically run files between the computers. If you don't want a hardwired Ethernet connection to your network (as I suggested) then use the wifi or bluetooth already in your tablet (as Paul suggested). Whether wifi or bluetooth can be used in the tablet depends on what features are present in the devices comprising your network or what wireless hardware is present in the PC which we won't know until told. |
