wireless network
I have a linksys wireless router that i working fine on
one of my XP computers. I have a linksys wireless UBS adapter that WAS working fine on my 2nd computer. I bought a DELL to replace my 2nd computer and the wireless adaptor worked and connected to the internet for 2 weeks and then after that could no longer connect. I have been on the phone with dell for many hours and many days and they cant fix the issue. I have called linksys and they ran tests and set the IP and said the router and adapter are working fine and that i need to contact microsoft to get some files that are commonly needed to fix the problem. Does anyone know what those files are and where i can get them from. thank you Larry |

Unplug the USB device and uninstall the USB wireless
adapter from your device manager (Right-click on "My computer"-Properties-Hardware tab-Device Manager). It should show up under network adapters or something of the sort. Click on it and uninstall it (there's an icon at the top). If there was any extra software that came with it, uninstall that. Reboot your computer and when you're back to the desktop, follow whatever instructions came with it to install it again. If everything works after that great! If not, go to Start-Run and type in "cmd" (without quotation marks). In the black box that appears, type in "ipconfig /all c:\ipconfig.txt". Now there will be a text file in your C: Drive called "ipconfig.txt". Copy what's in there and post it to the newsgroup. I had a situation where my D-Link wifi router seemed to work for about a day, but it was really buggy during that day. I haven't heard of anything where something stops working after 2 weeks unless it's broken. My rule of thumb with most computer products, it'll either break within the first week or after 2 years (or more). Only once (in 5 computers over the span of 10 years) have I ever seen anything break or stop working between 1 week and 2 years. Hope this helps, Nick nkjg(at)interchange(dot)ubc(dot)ca -----Original Message----- I have a linksys wireless router that i working fine on one of my XP computers.
