Default XP slowness

Hi,

I have a couple of users which are having very slow responses from their
brand new laptops. When they click on the start menu (classic) only half of
it will show up, after 30 seconds, then it takes about 30 seconds to open up
settings or printers, etc.

This is happening to two users who used to have offline files (and still do
on a few of their computers). I'm thinking that this is interfering. We've
redirected My Documents to point to a personal network share which is
unavailable while not connected to the office. They are using Citrix/TS to
connect to their Outlook, etc at the office, so don't really need direct
access. This slowness does not seem to occur with any of the new users.

Is there anyway to speed this up, or should I just change the My Documents.

Given that the delay is just about 30 seconds, I'm thinking that the search
for the network shares, etc is timing out. Is there anyway to disable the
search?

TIA,

Carlos
