Default windows cannot find 'null'

it appears that since i installed SP2 i cannot run a lot of my programs and have problems trying to nistall new programs all i get is this error message.

Windows cannot find '(null)'. Make sure you typed the name correctly,
and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and
then click Search.

Ive done virus checks no faults

any one have any idea
