Default why do I have to restart my PC?

I necessarily have to leave XP pro PCs running unattended for extended
periods (days, weeks)
Software is running in the background (delinda) and data is written to
an arrays mapped to each PC every day.

(These are scheduled backups off another PC)

The problems are that when I return and go to view the system status
on a monitor, the PCs do not respond to moving the mouse or pressing
keys on the keyboard.
Also often the data is not written to the array.
Another problem is the Pcs stop if the data written to the array
exceeds its capacity.
(I installed Delinda to purge data off the array to stay ahead of this
particular issue)

Is it a setting that needs to be changed? Is there a log I can view to
determine if and when the PCs crashed?
The PCs are on a network and have Internet, but are inside firewalls,
and for me to remotely log on to them is not an option. The PCs can
however email out no prob. Is there software that monitors the PCs
health and can enail me when the PC dies?
Lights are flashing on the PCs, so they might be running but I cannot
interact with them until I hold the power button down and shut them
down then reboot.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Default why do I have to restart my PC?

Mine runs 24\365 without any issues. Might want to check your Event Viewer to see
what has caused the issue

Sounds like whatever program you're running has memory leaks.

Is there software that monitors the PCs health and can enail me when the PC dies?

How do you expect it to email you once it's frozen?

I was thinking more of a supervisory situation.
If the PC fails to handshake within a narrowly defined time window, an
email would result,
or if the array is approaching a pre-defined amount of data, an email
results.
Best would be of course to resolve whatever is the problem.
I will research the memory leak suggestion.
thanks!
