Default Currency gadget stopped updating - Win 7 Home Premium 32 IE11

This happened around noon yesterday. The other gadget I use, Weather, works
fine.
Tried fixes (?) turned show gadgets off/on (R click on desk top, View), checked
currency.xml - no auto scale... All from googling 'IE11 breaks gadgets'without
success, so trying here.

About a year ago MS instructed all Windows
users to quit using gadgets and sidebar
because they had been discovered to be
a security risk. They even issued a "FixIt"
that disabled the gadgets and sidebar.

Keith,

Based on my personal experience, the problem is IE11. Because of some
compatibility issues with a couple of required websites, I originally
upgraded from IE9 to IE11 and all my gadgets stopped working. In addition,
it didn't solve my website access issues. I than downgraded to IE10 and all
is well. You may want to consider replacing IE11 with IE12. Unfortunately,
at some point when IE10 no longer is supported, the era of the gadgets will
be gone forever. I face that issue when it happens. BTW, I'm using Windows 7
Professional 64-bit, but I doubt that it makes any difference in this case.

Hello richard,

I installed IE 11 when it was released and, after setting display from 118%
to 100%, gadgets have worked OK. It was after a few hours use (yesterday)
that I noticed that exchange rates were not being update although the weather
was. Same today, Currency updated 1 day ago and the same problem now on desk
top machine, Win7 Home Premium 64 bit.
Rebooted router (sometimes this fixes problems accessing some websites) but
nada.

In that case they better instruct users to quit using Windows.

I use qlock
http://www.qlock.com/

Gives me rates at the end of the day (it's for home use, not
for people that play the market) and world time anywhere I want. Sets
you back US$ 15 though.
The freeware version only does world time.

Hi,
My 1st post, Im not sure where to write. But, I'd just like to add that, as well as my Currency Gadget not updatingfor 6 days now, on all 3 pc's, I would like to add also that one of my W7 Home Premium laptops, has IE11 and the sidebar gadgets have always worked fine. Ive heard too that IE11 wont work the gadgets, but mine do, and on my Mums W8.1 with IE11, I installed Gadgets Revived, to restore the sidebar. And that works fine too. So, I dunno what is what. I just hope the Money Exchange rate comes back to life. BrentR, ChCh NZ

Free Currency Converter Gadget

Currency Converter is a free, elegant and very convenient gadget you can
place on your desktop to learn automatically updated (through MSN) exchange
rates in several currencies. The initial view features 2 currencies, but
you can add more selecting from a list.

As is known, this gadget does not support some conversions (e.g. it does
not support Philippine Pesos), but it includes a link to the On Line Converter
where most probably you will find the conversion that you miss.

Note (November 2014): It seems that MSN decided to stop this service, and
the gadget won’t update exchange rates anymore. You can download and try
it, but most probably it will remain useless. However, a new currency converter,
not depending on MSN, will be published on this page the next days. I hope
you enjoy it!

It's not a gadget but the Oanda web site is very convenient. A very
large number of conversions is available:
