"Something went wrong" in Photos
On all of my Win10 machines, I get this error message when I view a video
in Photos, and then try to save a frame from the video: "Something went wrong. Please try that again." Anyone know what's up? TIA |

Do you have a need to save video files in your [My] Photos folder? You don't have a [My] Video folder to save your videos? If you backup, do you really want to include those huge files for videos? If not, especially if they were downloaded or captured streams, put them elsewhere for storage outside the Windows partition. What happens when you right-click on the video file (wherever it is), paste a copy to the desktop, and double-click on that video file? Do you get the same error message? What video viewers are installed? Can you open them and then use their File - Open menu to load the video file to view it okay? |

Hi, I do have a Video folder: C:\Users\Boris\Videos\Capture, which is empty. Both the Video and the Capture folder are void of files.) I really don't 'do', or save videos, such as movies or streams. Not into that sort of thing. But this particular video is a video my daughter took of her dog playing, using her Samsung Note 8. She uploaded it to photos.google.com, and sent me the link via email. When I got the email, I clicked on the link, and there was the video. I downloaded the video from there and saved to my desktop. Properties on the file show it is an .m4p, 19.6MB, and 36 seconds in length. If I did videos, I would save them outside the Windows partition, and probably on an external drive. What happens when you right-click on the video file (wherever it is), paste a copy to the desktop, and double-click on that video file? Do you get the same error message? What video viewers are installed? Can you open them and then use their File - Open menu to load the video file to view it okay? As I said, the file is on the desktop. A right-click and Open with will open and play the file on all four players I have installed: Photos Movies and TV Windows Media Player, and VLC Media Player I decided to launch each of the video players first, and see if I could then navigate, from each player, to the file, and play it. If I launch either Windows Media Player or VLC Media Player, and navigate to the file on my desktop, the video will play. But, if I launch either Photos or Movies and TV, the file does not show up in the 'default groups', so I can't play it. For Photos, for instance, the default groups appear as Collection, Albums, People, and Folders. If I Add a folder, or Import from a folder, in Photo, and specify C:\Users\Boris\Desktop, the file now shows up under Collection and Folders. Bingo! Turns out that I can now load the video, and save an individual frame as a .jpg. Looks like for Photo (and probably Movies and TV), one must include the folder containing the file in it's 'library'. |
