Shutting Down Problems
In the last week, sometimes my Desktop Computer gets hung on shutting down.
One time I left it alone until it went into Hibernation (1/2hr) and when I brought it out, it was still displaying "Shutting Down". This has happened a couple of times, even when I chose Restart instead of Shut Down. No other messages are displayed. I then just use the Power button on the tower to shut down (Hold 5 sec). When I reboot, there are no hangups or problems doing so, as the boot goes just fine. Is there some log that I can check to see what wa/iss hanging up the shutdown, sometimes? Thanks, Buffalo |

Thanks, Buffalo This one isn't all that good, but it's better than nothing. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable...essage-windows And while there is a Windows Performance Analyzer package that uses ETW events to track startup and shutdown, it's not going to work all that well if you hit the power button. I don't know how it would handle exception conditions - an operating assumption for that one, is that the machine is working perfectly when you use it. Paul |

Paul I went into the Registry and added the Dword value 32 bit verbosestatus and gave it a value of 1 When I shut down, there was one quick message (too fast to catch it) and then another that said 'stopping services' and then it shut down. So at least that is working. Hopefully, if it ever hangs again, I will see some message. The first time I did it, I added the Dword value 64 bit verbosestatus (because I am running 64 bit) and it didn't work. It did need the 32bit DWORD. -- Buffalo |
