Default Hard Drive space

What is up with the hard drive in XP? I try to delete
files - such as Temporary Internet Files - and when its
empty it still uses 2gb - whats up with that? Also - i
count up the number of gb being used by clicking on
individual folders - but when i click on my harddrive - it
reports about twice that amount. WHY???? How do I free
up more space?
