How many of you are ready to run out and upgrade to Windows 8?

Not me. The company that I work for is moving to Windows 7 as I write (or may have finished by now). I doubt that Windows 8 has been seriously considered or will be for some time. I have two computers on my desktop. One is an XP box; the other is my 7 box. I do development/maintenance programming on both, and the XP box is still my main system. Windows 8? No, I will wait to see what happens and then probably ignore it for quite some time. Sincerely, Gene Wirchenko |

Not me. I don't have to run out to install it. I've had Windows 8 sitting here since RTM, ready to install if I want to (I got it from my MSDN subscription). I also ran both of the previews, so I have some experience with it. I haven't decided to install it yet, but I probably will in the not very distant future. |

Besides when7 gets no more updates, I may be 6 feet under. My view precisely. Actually my real reason for not changing to Windows 8 is that I've tried it. It is diabolical. I may be OK for phones and toy computers, but enterprise and domestic desktop/laptop users won't touch it with a bargepole. -- Bob Tetbury, Gloucestershire, UK If all seems to be going well, you obviously have no idea what is really happening. |

On Thu, 04 Oct 2012 19:34:55 -0400, PDFrank wrote as underneath : Not me. Trouble is eventually it is forced by hardware not providing drivers for old OSs - Baught a new laptop for my sister about a year ago; wanted to put XP on it for her - no hardware drivers, had to be W7...! They get you in the end. That is generally my only reason for updating (not the same as upgrading). I am only using Windows 7 because it became impractical to keep repairing my Windows 2000 computer. At this rate, I probably won't update Windows until Windows 10 is released. -- Crash "I'm told that Wagner's music is not as bad as it sounds." ~ Mark Twain ~ |

Do you mean this can be done without affecting settings or without reformatting disc? If not then all user files would have to be saved to an external drive, wouldn't they? Or is this an 'update to Windows 7' leaving everything other than the OS intact?-- choro ***** |
