Default XP SP2 Direct Access Component Issue

During the start up procedure for XP with SP 2 installed
the following message appears:
"Direct Access Component has encountered a problem and
needs to close, sorry for the inconvenience".

This seems to be related to the file tfswctrl.exe.mdmp
and appcompat.txt.

After this message disappears from the screen the
computer becomes very sluggish i.e over two minutes to
open MS Money.

Can you help me to further understand the source of this
problem and how to fix it?
Thanks,
Don
