Default lifecam xp crashes

Bought a lifecam VX-3000 for my XP Home SP2 system on Feb 23. Installed the
software from the CD in the box and then when I went to start up the cam, it
wanted to get the latest update off the ms web site. So it downloaded the
lcweb.exe and then downloaded some sort of winzip file and for some reason it
just ended. Ever since that point in time, my system periodically shuts down
black with no error, does an automatic cold reboot, and then when windows
returns, it says I had a severe error and that I should revert my system to
the most recent restore point. Has anyone had any experience with this type
of lifecam crash, and how was it resolved? Thanks, Ron E.

Start by disconnecting the camera from the PC, uninstalling the webcam
software from Add/Remove in the Control Panel and rebooting.

If the reboots now stop, we know it was due to some error with the webcam
software. Download the new install package from the MS website and try
again.

If the reboots don't stop, then use a System Restore to a point before Feb
23rd.
