Default SD Card Error

I am trying to take some still pictures with a Canon ZR-70MC camcorder and
transfer them to my computer. I took some pictures on an SD card and they
were okay because I saw them on the camcorder and then I put the card in a
little card reader and when I inserted the card reader into a usb port the
computer said I had to format the disk. So I formatted the disk. Now I put
the formatted disk back in the camcorder to take pictures and I get "Card
Error" on the camcorder. How can I fix this? Please don't suggest that I
connect the camcorder to the computer because the software is not available
on Canon's website.

You format the card in the camcorder . If I remember this was
happening a couple of weeks ago ; I suggested then to put the card
reader into the usb slot , then put the card into the reader .

Another way is to plug in the camcorder to the computer using the cable
supplied with the camcorder and using the program supplied with the
camcorder to download the pictures to the computer. Read the manual. Go to
http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0900000699/ZR7065IM-EN.pdf for the manual for
your camcorder if you don't already have it. On Page 128 it states that it
formats the card in the "Design Rule for Camera File System" standard.

Apparently Canon's camera's file format on the SD card is not compatible
with the computer's SD card reader even though they post on their web site:
"For the storage of digital still images, you can use either MultiMediaCards
or SD memory cards in the ZR70MC. An 8MB SD Memory Card comes with the
camcorder, storing XGA (1024 X 768 pixels) or VGA (640 X 480) quality
photos. These images can be transferred to your computer using the
camcorder's USB interface or a card reader."

I formatted the card in the camcorder and put a picture on it and when I put
it into the computer I still get "this disk is not formatted".

Again, there is no software to connect the camcorder to the computer.

They make these things incompatible so you'll have to spend more money.

If you have no Canon ZR-70MC manual or software you may be
able to find them on the Canon web site. Your problem seems
not unique -- so it was in Canon's interest to publicize the solution.

Did you look at the manual that I gave the link for? If not, go to page 129
and look where it says "For instructions on how to connect the camcorder to
the computer,... refer to the DIGITAL VIDEO SOLUTION DISK..."

Apparently there is software to enable download using the USB connection to
a computer. If you didn't receive the disk with the camcorder or haven't
installed the software that would be your problem. You need to contact Canon
for a copy of the disk/program.

While Canon doesn't provide the DVSD on their website they do have it's
documentation there. Long URL and is the rest of this message even if on
more than one line.
