Help Me Please! WinXP Update (SP2)Q811493
Well Im running a P4 2.4GHz w/a 60 GB hardrive and 512MB
of RAM. I have a 128mb ATI Radeon 9800Pro Graphics card, DVD Rom, and a CDRW. Sorry but I don't know my BIOS. I bought the PC from HP. Ok, I uninstalled that update and now when I turn on my PC it shows the XP start up screen with the green loading bar at the bottom and while it's doing this I hear two beeps from my motherboard. Theyre low sounding beeps in a sequence of 1-pause-1 and theyre not long beeps. Then the screen turns all black and the PC restarts. I've already made sure the memory is secure in its slot and have made sure every wire is connected correctly. If anybody has any sort of info PLEASE HELP. Thanks. O yea and if you need more info about the PC to help me out please post and I'll try to answer them as best I can. |

Help Me Please! WinXP Update (SP2)Q811493
There is probably something wrong with the "POST "Power On Self Test" / CMOS
Settings (that's what twp beeps generally mean) Try Starting in SAFE MODE: Press F8 repeatedly when the PC is first starting. When the screen appears with boot options, choose SAFE MODE. Press Enter (twice?) Click "Yes" when it asks if you want to continue in SAFE MODE. If it starts: Click ~~Start--Run--type "msconfig"--Press Enter. Go to the "Startup" tab and uncheck everything and try to start your PC. If it starts ok, try re-enabling one thing at a time, until you find what causes the problem. If you have the Update stored on your PC you can also try reinstalling it, provided you can get to SAFE MODE. Also try looking he http://aumha.org/win5/kbstrtup.php Hope some of that helps, DocT. I really think this is my problem right here
-- http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310396 I tried the safe mode thing and it didnt boot up. Im going to try the instructions on the website but I lost my CD. Will it still work if I use one from a Dell computer that I also have? If not am I just going to have to buy a whole new retail OS? Thank you a lot for the help! -----Original Message----- There is probably something wrong with the "POST "Power On Self Test" / CMOS Settings (that's what twp beeps generally mean) Try Starting in SAFE MODE: Press F8 repeatedly when the PC is first starting. Help Me Please! WinXP Update (SP2)Q811493
Ok my bios is Award Bios by Phoenix and I looked it up
and it says that it only beeps when theres a memory problem or video problem. http://www.phoenix.com/en/customer+s...bios/awardbios /award+error+codes.htm#Post_Codes The good news is that its not beeping anymore after I did that kernel thing. Im gonna search some more to see if I can fix it. If not Im just might reinstall XP. Thanks a lot for everyones help. I appreciate it. -----Original Message----- Damnit! Believe or not, beep codes for HP products are available at their web site.
They're just hard as heck to find. I saved the website for the beep codes for my HP Pavilion 7850: http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/documen...07107#P49_1818 Maybe this will help find the codes for your model HP. For my HP 7850, two beeps are supposed to indicate memory parity error (but since my model doesn't support parity this error isn't suppose to happen). Huh?, well I don't understand that either.
