Flakey Computer keeps turning on.
I have a Sony Vaio laptop running windows 8.1. Installed that way and never reloaded.
We once had real good luck with closing the lid and having the laptop sleep and then opening the lid and having it wake. But someone along the line it started waking on it's own. So we found the wake on mouse setting wrong and fixed that and we were pretty good for a while. Now in the past weeks, it's turning on again. We've set the laptop to no wake on opening the lid and not sleeping when closing the lid. The theory being maybe the lid sensor is defective? What the hey. So we figured hitting the power button or a sleep icon I put on the desktop was not that hard to do. But for the life of us (wife and I) we can't figure out what is making it turn on. Maybe about 1/2 hour or so? Anyone got any ideas. I'm out of them. |

A couple of other places to check :-) -- SC Tom |

A restart does a fresh load of the W8.1 OS whereas a shutdown does not, if memory serves me correctly. Also, have you recently installed any software on the machine? No NEW software. Possible an update like AVG or such. I'll look at the nic and bios later. |

Wake Source [0] Type: Wake Timer Owner: [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume5\Program Files (x86)\TeamViewer\TeamViewer_Service.exe (TeamViewer) Owner Supplied Reason: generic So since we don't use Team Viewer any longer, I've killed it. Here's hoping. seems to wake every 30 minutes, so the timer is set.....tick....tick............ |
