Hi,

AS YOU SHOULD KNOW EDITING THE REGISTRY COULD BE
DANGEROUS BUT IF YOU TAKE CRE THERE WILL BE NO PROBLEM.
IF YOU HAVE'NT CHANGED THE REGISTRY BEFORE TAKE SPECIAL
CARE.

Anyone who wonders how to get icons like My Computer
and my documents onto there desktop with out the little
shortcut icon follow these steps.

Type regedit in the run box and press enter. Go to the
entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurr entVersi
onExplorerdesktopNameSpace there will be a sub-key for
each icon you see on the desktop (they are codes i'll
tell you what the are in a minute).To get a icon add a
sub-key in the folder:-

My Computer {20D04FE0-3AEA-0169-A2D8-08002B30309D}
My Documents {450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}
Recycle Bin {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

If you need any more send a message to this news group,
maybe one with capital letters so i can see

P.S. After you add this you might nedd to refresh the
desktop. Right Click it and press Refresh.

Sharon is so right. There is usually an easy way to do things in xp - all
you need is a little exploration. The registry should be left alone as far
as possible, even if you back it up first.

While your intent is well meaning, there is an easier way to do this in

XP.
Display Desktop Customize Desktop. Check the boxes for system shortcuts
you want added to the desktop.
