Default Windows Sharing Argh!!!!

Ok, Windows 7 32 bit. I had a small internal hd in a pc as third drive.
Undid the share it was on which worked fine and then swapped the disk
out for a slightly larger one.

Now trying to reset the share to find "Simple Sharing" seems to now be
changed to Advanced Sharing with no other option. So I proceed anyway,
set entire drive to be shared and add "Everyone" to permissions list.
Trying to access from a 2nd pc gives the bs of "permissions denied
crap" ARGH!!!

I cannot seem to turn back on Simple File Sharing and no passwords.
Advanced sharing doesn't seem to change when "No password" specified nor
does naything change when folder option of "Simple file ..." changed.

Thing is all the other shares on same pc still work fine.

Wtf, simple procedure becomes an all night hoorrer story so easily.

Glad to hear you resolved it.

Were you using XP before ?

Windows 7 does not have a 'Simple Sharing' check box option.

This was a Win7 box but it is on a network with a varied mix of XP,
Vista and Win7. XP boxes have video out cards and are hooked up to both
stereo and tv (no need to update), Vista is a fileserver has both
internal and external drives all shared, Win7 boxes are wife's and my
personal pcs, sometimes there's a laptop or two connected and sometimes
Gameboy and the like. Why it's a "Workgroup" and I sure wish MS would
stop changing how to access the various features every version. Does
anyone even use "Homegroup"? Seems to me most people would have prior
experience with a network if the need is there (for me it goes back pre
Win 3.1/WFW, e.g. Lantastic for DOS) if/when they wanted to use one so
they'd go with the old "tried and trusted".

I'm sure there's a lot of people that use Homegroup, those folks just do
not haunt newsgroups and the Usenet.

When my inlaws first had 2 Win7 'puters, I networked them using
Homegroup. I'd never even used Win7 at the time. I followed the
instructions, and it was quick and easy.

So when you have users who are not very computer literate in knowing
just what can be done with computers, it's an easy way to accomplish
what you want without needing all the technical knowledge.

Workgroup has been around since, well, pretty much forever..in your case
it's in XP, Vista, and 7.

HomeGroup is for Win7 and later machines.
