cross fingers and toes, hope to the 7 hells that they don't "extend the

With the uptake of 10 being so very far below what M$ wanted,
they'll probably extend that freebee deadline.

There's talk of an inevitable requirement for a subscription
(already in place for the Pro version ?), so you can go right on
paying for it !

Personal data gathering and pop-up adds are outragious !

For me, still NOT a good idea.

I'll stay with 7 ...

Has been working much better for me that 7 or 8 on my laptops. Not sure
why there's been all this, what oft-times seems to be kneejerk,
opposition to Windows 10.

My suggestion would be to upgrade to Windows 10. A year ago when it
first came out I upgraded my laptop and tablet to Windows 10. At that
time I had problems with some of the programs on my Windows 10
installation on my Laptop. I reverted back to W8.1.

I continued to use the tablet and it worked fine, So fine in fact, that
about two months ago I decided to try it on my laptop again. This time
every thing went perfect.

I have been using Windows 10 on my Laptop for about two months and had
no problems. Updates go off with out a hitch, and all programs run with
no problems.

The first thing I did after I was sure the total update was complete,
was to go through all of the settings in the OS and programs and turn
off any thing that even looked like a phone home option. Later if I
had a problem with a specific function, I went back in an turned a
couple back on.

One program that is a frustration in the MS Solitaire. It is set up to
down load ads. To fight this I turn of the LAN when I play the game.
However, after so long with out being able to phone home, all of the
card sets become unwinnable. I let it phone home and the win rate
returns to normal.

I have set the update page to Notify to schedule restarts. Also instead
of waiting for MS to download updates to my computer, When I have the
time I force an update check and download what ever is available.

By upgrading, you have already lessened the frustration when MS releases
Window 11 or what ever they call the next version.

Only if the user has some intelligence and that he/she wants to do some
meaningful work on it. For jobless and hobbyists, 10 is not a good idea
because their requirements are quite different from serious users.
These people will question almost anything. For example that idiot
SteveGG or Big Bad Bob would start asking questions about a soap when
whether it is cleaning or not. Now how do you deal with these people.
I can expect women to ask questions about shampoos and all that but a
man! What is this world up to these days?

Probably, first time you didn't do Clean Installation. With clean
installation there is nothing on the machine so Windows 10 has nothing
to check for compatibility and so it uses generic drivers and the
installation is quicker. With upgrades, Windows needs to do all sorts
of checking and backups for 30 days reversal and in doing so it takes
time and something may not work as expected because this was not thought
of at the time of writing the code.

The first thing I did after I was sure the total update was complete,
was to go through all of the settings in the OS and programs and turn
off any thing that even looked like a phone home option.

I do all this things at the time of installation. Custom installation
is what I choose.

I don't play games but I just tried it and it didn't bother me but it is
because I don't know how to play!!

Updates are off on my machines. I update my machine once every 3 months
when I have nothing better to do.

No next version as far as I can know; It is like Office 365. the name
hasn't changed for years but new updates keep coming. I am on 2016 now
that's because I tried updates recently because somebody was having a
problem so i have to switch my updates on because I post back
screenshots and my response.

Well, I have been looking forward to it. It wold be nice to be
able to turn Windows Updates on and not have to worry about Windows 10
getting installed.

Unfortunately, as others have noted, Microsoft may well extend
the deadline.

I was also told that they have seen pig flying and they have seen pie in
the sky. so the credibility of "others" you seem to rely on says
something about your state of mind. are you on some drugs? I
understand the water in your area is contaminated with marijuana drugs
so this might have affected your brain.

a) 2D FLUGLY interface. Win 7 has a nice, 3D skeumorphic interface.
Looking at the BUTT-UGLY 2D kindergarten-art **** interface *BOTHERS*
me, like bad 'feng shui', or ****ty wallpaper in your workspace. It's a
distraction, and alters your mood and productivity in a *BAD* way.

(*I* cannot use "Ape" (8.x) either, for the same reason. too
nauseating, distracting in a BAD way)

b) all that ADWARE and SPYWARE.

c) the "start thing" vs "start menu". Worst: alphabetized ALL 'apps'(sic).

d) the "the METRO" influence of 'Settings' and the desktop in general.
makes me wanna hurl.

e) the *FORCED* updates. If I want updates, *I* will choose *WHAT* and
*WHEN*, *NOT* Micro-shaft.

f) the anti-privacy EULA changes, particularly for the microsoft logon.
look carefully, and you'll see that it's a VIOLATION to do anything
that Micro-shaft deems is harmful to MYSELF. That could include voting
REPUBLICAN, probably...

g) the online tracking you implicitly *AGREE* to via the 'Micro-shaft
Login'. Separately mentioned, because it DESERVES to be.

h) the STRONG-ARMING to *USE* a Micro-shaft Login [and the amount of
WASTED TIME, 20 minutes or more, that it takes to set up a LOCAL LOGIN]

i) the near STRONG-ARMING to make that first login, which has ADMIN
access to the machine, a MICRO-SHAFT LOGIN. In the POSIX world, you
don't *EVAR* do *ANYTHING* as 'root' unless you really, really mean it.
In the Micro-shaft world, MICRO-SHAFT wants COMPLETE CONTROL over
*YOUR* computer, *INCLUDING* the main 'admin' login. [to protect users,
they should NOT let the admin login be a 'microsoft logon', NOR go
online directly without a lot of 'are you sure' dialog boxen first, and
then *NEVER* let it the PRIMARY LOGON for the machine. those should
ONLY be 'user level']

There, that ought a do it for now. there are OTHER reasons, things I
can't remember at the moment, but this list should be ENOUGH.

wow, are *YOU* wrong! But I'd expect a leftist/socialist MSNBC-watching
Micro-shaft SHILL to say things like that.

you've completely missed the point. so you resort to ad-hominem
attacks. thanks, SO much! So I'll return 'in kind': You're a shill.
A fanboi. A mindless minion, brainwashed by the Cult of Redmond.

You should think for yourself instead. I do.

Now how do you deal with these people.

believe us, for we tell the *TRUTH*. Ask relevent (non-loaded/leading)
questions, in honesty, to find out WHY we say the things we do.
Intelligently engage in discussions, not 'fanboi' rhetoric interspersed
with ad hominem attacks against the opposition. That's a typical lefty
"Saul Alinsky" trick, which has revealed your political leanings as well.

Do you FEAR that we're right and that you'll lose your false confidence
in the Cult of Redmond?

I can expect women to ask questions about shampoos and all that but a
man! What is this world up to these days?

THAT sounds like you're accusing me of being a HOMOSEXUAL!

What, is you're gay-dar broken or something?

I happen to be *straight*, though you may have hoped otherwise. So,
yeah, I don't "swing that way", but whatever makes you happy, there,
'Elton John'. I'm not judging your preferences.

This reminds me of a local politician, an openly gay Republican, who's
fiscally conservative, who ran for mayor against one of the SLIMIEST
DEMO-RATS EVAR, Bob Filner. Bob Filner, during the debates, kept making
references to the other guy's "BOYfriend". I thought Demo-Rats were
supposed to LOVE gay people? Well, only when they're LIBERAL LEFTIES,
apparently. Hypocrites, all.

Too late now, I guess. In a few days you'll no longer need them.

Unfortunately, as others have noted, Microsoft may well extend

I rather doubt it, but I guess we'll see shortly. I think the wheels are
probably already in motion to end the 'free' offer on schedule.

That's demonstrably untrue. Just ask the folks who went from 7 to 10 versus
the folks who went from 8 to 10. Their relative frustration levels didn't
seem to be very different. If you want to avoid frustration, you don't
upgrade more often, you upgrade less often!
