OK, I got it! I got it! I got it! Your staying with Win 7!
Congratulations. Sheesh. That horse has long been dead.

If staying with 7, and acceptable, and without a Win7 install DVD then it
might be a good idea to find someone(friend, relative, etc.) with a valid
Win7 product key for the same version as your Win7 edition to download a
Win7 iso on your behalf.

If still considering Win10 as an upgrade at least you'll be able to have in
your possession Win10 installation media(USB or DVD) or ISO.

There is this tool. What this does, is get you the URL of
a "direct download" from the Microsoft site. The download
doesn't come from heidoc itself. The tool just figures out
where the download is located for you. A URL generated
this way, is valid for 24 hours (giving enough time
to finish the download, if you have broadband).

https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/techno...-download-tool

It's up to you to decide whether running that
program is "safe" or not. Like most of the
software we get off the 'net...

Sorry to anoy.

Just still trying to find a good reason.

If there really is none, then that's something that's quiet remarkable
and worthy of posting, especially considering the apparent problems
with 10. ie useful to others.

Extended support window. If you want to hedge your bets, do an image
backup of your system drive, do the upgrade to get the Win10 license,
then restore your image. That way you can elect to install Windows 10
at no charge if desired after Windows 7 support ends in January of
2020.

Feature-wise I'm not seeing any real reason other than better built-in
driver support. (Then again I see most of the "exciting new features"
as nuisances at best, to be disabled.)

How about fun? Look at the current crop of posts
here. People are having great fun looking for tricks
and tweaks to cheat MS out of their datamining and
to make Windows 10 behave with some modicum of
usability. It's like being back in high school and
trying to come up with a plan to sneak a cigarette
between classes. Wouldn't you love to be a kid
again?

Exactly! Reminds me of Jeff Liebermann's site, Learn by Destroying.

This used to be an HP dv-5 laptop :-)

He already knows that. There have been more posts on this topic than
people have had hot dinners!. Anybody who cares enough to monitor a news
group knows the value and need to maintain an image backup of the os. If
you want to know how well win-10 works just install it and stop asking
stupid questions that nobody can answer because we don't know how and why
you use a computer in the first place.

Do you expect to have the same hardware in 2020 that you have now? The
digital entitlement is tied to that hardware. That's one of the reasons why
I skipped the 'free' deal.

I have an HP laptop that desperately needs to have its fan cleaned, as
it overheats dangerously. However, I've read what it takes to get at
the fan, which is to completely dismantle the thing. I just know I'll
wind up with a pile of parts like in the picture that I won't be able
to put back together. At this rate the thing will burn itself out
before summon the guts to fix it.
