Missing drivers
A new XP installation has resulted in some drivers (Multimedia Controller
and VIA IDE Bus Master) missing in device manager. The machine seems to run fine but should I worry about this? I am concerned I am missing some fuinctionality in these drivers. Hardware update cannot find them. How should I go about finding them and ensuring that I install the right versions? The motherboard is Shuttle and came with VIA audio and IDE drivers but on the CD they only go up to W2K. Thanks, Andrew |

If they do not supply drivers for the OS you are trying to run, then they do not support that hardware running under that OS - and that is that manufacturer's choice. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

Thanks for the reference. Their manual only references their Taiwanese
(Chinese language) site. However, at http://au.shuttle.com/Download/Downl...sp?Item=AV18/E they apparently have never added XP support. - A "GreenieLeBrun" wrote in message ups.com... Then time for a new mobo.
Using hardware, unsupported by your o/s, could lead to unintended consequences, the least of which would be a sys that fails. PS Winupdate is the last place you should look for drivers "Andrew Chalk" wrote in message ... Thanks for the reference. Their manual only references their Taiwanese (Chinese language) site. At a push you could try installing the Win2K drivers as these will usually
work ok in Windows XP. "Andrew Chalk" wrote: A new XP installation has resulted in some drivers (Multimedia Controller and VIA IDE Bus Master) missing in device manager. The multimedia components seem to work fine. It is juts that this item in
device manager keeps coming up as "uninstalled". Thanks, Andrew "Maurice" wrote in message ... At a push you could try installing the Win2K drivers as these will usually work ok in Windows XP. Similar problem, which items show "uninstalled" and do they have a yellow mark?
Have you expanded those items and then tried right clicked on those to see properties and then tried tthe "troubleshoot" tab? Can you see update, or instal or uninstall option? -- XJM "Andrew Chalk" wrote: The multimedia components seem to work fine. Sorry, beyond my knowledge. On a similar note, would you happen to know where
one would download a zip file(extract to where?) to update a driver? Good luck on your other problem. -- XJM "Andrew Chalk" wrote: Yes, to all. |

A temporary folder will do, as long as you remember where you put it.

Thanks Bob I
Don't I have to dwnld to any audio(1-2), codecs, or driver(cache) files once I extract them? For exmple, I've dowld to desktop then extracted to same, but does that mean I've applied/installed to correct file(ie: soundmax or realtek or other)? (Somewhat of a novice to zip and location) I'm about to try a Hotfix from MS-just got of phone with them. For those having similar problems see he http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111 You do have to call them and they'll email you a link-i've got nothing to lose. -- XJM "Bob I" wrote: A temporary folder will do, as long as you remember where you put it. xavier wrote: Sorry, beyond my knowledge. Create a folder for the purpose, don't dump it to the "desktop". I was
only commenting on the folder issue, didn't see the "rest of the issue". xavier wrote: Thanks Bob I Don't I have to dwnld to any audio(1-2), codecs, or driver(cache) files once I extract them?
