SP2 final hope
I've had nightmares trying to install SP@. I've tried all the spyware and
shareware. Cleaned everything. Virus scanned and still no joy. What happens is that I install and the computer restarts. I get a black screen saying that the restart has failed. The screen says Win XP SP@ on top. I can then only open in safe mode. I have asked microsoft for help and they've been great. I'm in no way any good with PC's and this seems a rather drastic course of action. Any other options ? It seems that there may be some software conflicts between your computer and Windows XP Service Pack 2. Now there are two choices for you. Please let me know which choice you would like to choose. Choice One: If you would really like to obtain the Windows XP Service Pack 2. We can try the following steps to install it on your computer. 1. Contact Cicero and ask them how to update the BIOS (Basic Input Output System), and update it if necessary. 2. Backup your personal files and documents. 3. Reformat the hard drive and install Windows XP. 4. Install Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) right after the installation of Windows XP. Choice Two: If you do not want to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the Operating System, I can help you block the automatic installation of Service Pack 2. Note: The instruction will only block Windows XP SP2, you will still be able to receive other critical updates through Automatic Updates. I am waiting for your reply to further assist you on this issue until this issue is resolved to your satisfaction. |

Russ;
Do you have or can you borrow another hard drive? If so install Windows XP and Service Pack 2 from CD. If this is successful, you know you have some type of software problem assuming the drivers are the same. If not, you have a hardware issue. Russ, disconnect all peripherals such as scanner, camera and printers.
Set screensaver to None. Boot in Safe Mode. Now install SP2 from a CD not from a download. Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...s/default.mspx "Russ" wrote: Sorry. Don't have another drive.
