Account locked out
Hello everyone..
I have a client that has Windows XP Professional computers w/SP3 and they are not joined to a domain. They are on a peer to peer network joined to a workgroup. From time to time, one of the computers won't let one of the users logon after the computer is freshly booted. It says the account has been locked out and contact the administrator. I CAN Login to the same computer as the administrator but not as that user. Account lockout have been set in local security to 3 attempts then lock them out and I realize that the user might be making mistakes as he attempts to login, My question is, how does an administrator login to that computer and unlock the locked out user account? I saw a document on technet.... Securing Windows XP Professional in a Peer-to-Peer Networking Environment http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc875837.aspx That says the following,,, To unlock a locked user account 1.. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2.. Double-click User Accounts. 3.. Click the Advanced tab and then click the Advanced button. 4.. Click the Users branch. 5.. Find the affected user account and double-click it. 6.. Clear the Account is locked out checkbox and then click OK. But I can't find the advanced tab in User accounts,,, Any help would be appreciated,,, -- Bikini Browser of San Juan Puerto Rico Small Business Office Automation Small Business Document Imaging Solutions Networking Solutions using Linksys & Cisco Products www.daleallen.com/contact.htm www.daleallen.net (our blog) |

You can also get to the Local User and Groups management console by entering "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) in the Start Menu Run box and click your way around as explained in the Technet article that you cite. John PS. Something seems to be borked with your message, my newsreader can usually crosspost to different groups but with your message it throws up an error and refuses to crosspost to the groups you selected. |

Just open the "Run" box on the Start Menu (or press WinKey+R) and enter :
lusrmgr.msc ....and press the [ok] button. The Microsoft Management Console (MMC.EXE) file "Local Users and Groups" should open in a few seconds. Select the Users "folder" from the left-hand pane. Double-click on the User that has the lock-out problem. Uncheck the box marked "Account is Locked Out" Press [ok] to save and exit the console. == Cheers, Tim Meddick, Peckham, London. :-) "Bikini Browser" wrote in message ... Hello everyone..
