"Windows Explorer has Stopped Working."
Win7 SP1 Nvidia/GeForce
This is happening all the time when I try to rename or create folders in the left-hand pane of Windows Explorer. As far as I can tell this started about the time I upgraded Nvidia/GeForce. The error message: *** Faulting Application Path: C:\Windows\explorer.exe Problem signature Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Explorer.EXE Application Version: 6.1.7601.17567 Application Timestamp: 4d672ee4 Fault Module Name: SHLWAPI.dll Fault Module Version: 6.1.7601.17514 Fault Module Timestamp: 4ce7c9ab Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 000000000000ae72 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 5153 Additional Information 2: 5153391cec0e13ae4316d612a7b5722b Additional Information 3: 8036 Additional Information 4: 8036d72c1f9979c6c8c0938fcaed392a *** Is there any way to fix this? Peter Is this useful? http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/...ashing-shlwapi Fokke If it involves thumbnails, there are a couple tools here for looking at them. One for newer, one for older OSes. http://code.google.com/p/thumbcache-viewer/ http://code.google.com/p/thumbs-viewer/ One of the web pages also has advice on how to clean out the thumbnails. It looks like it might be available on later OSes. My WinXP has no "Disk Cleanup" entry for thumbnails that I can see. But the later OSes might. HTH, Paul |

Peter I'm not familiar with that program but usually you don't have to uninstall the program, just disable the contextual menu item in Shellexview to stop the explorer crashes. Jim Thanks, I just deleted it. All is still well. Peter |
