Default Device cannot start (code 10)

I've gone thru the regular routine of troubleshooting this error code. - I
reinstalled XP Pro on a box (that had XP Pro already) where the intergrated
audio (AVANCE AC97 Audio) was working before I wiped it clean. Since the
reinstallation of the OS and the driver install, I NOW can't get sound. I
installed the exact same driver that I used in the previous OS install.

Anyone out there know what needs to be done to regain sound on this thing?
Outside of purchasing a sound card.
THANX N ADVANCE Cmos Driver

FYI if needed - PCI Bus 0, Device 31, Function 5
