Recently used list in word

Hello, All!

I have recently installed xp pro and office 2k3. I find in Word that the
recently used list under options is grayed out. How can this be fixed?

I would agree except the first time I sent it, when I checked it had been
deleted (i.e. message from OE is that message was no longer on server)
therefore I resent it.

Not only is my first message gone but your first answer is gone as well, so
here I sit not knowing the answer.
