Check to see if the file mtxr.dll already exists in the destination. One reason files cannot be copied during an installation is due to the file already existing. The only other thing I can think of is a "permissions" problem...but that seems unlikely since all others are apparently ok I did. There were already 2 instances of mtxr.dll and I deleted both. Still the problem persists. -- Thanks Archer |

... He wasn't asking about using the printer. The problem is that the driver install wants to load a lot of junk onto his system. Drivers or not junk or the software installation fails: 1. Remove the CD from the computer's CD/DVD drive, and then disconnect the USB cable from the computer. 2. Restart the computer. 3. Insert the printer software CD in the computer's CD/ DVD drive, then follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer software. Do not connect the USB cable until you are told to do so. 4. After the installation finishes, restart the computer. If you are unable to print: 1. Make sure the cable connections are secure. 2. Make sure the printer is powered on. The On button will be lit white. -- -- Modernism The Reason Why We Vote! With The Ability To Understand The Art Of Writing it in... |

This is the driver I downloaded. This so-called basic driver is five to ten times the size of file needed for a basic print driver... http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/softwa...sicx86_188.exe With the disk received with the printer in hand I never Googled for an alternative. Thanks for the above link, I downloaded the 26 mb file and tried to install in another XP machine. It still calls for installing from M$ the .net files, a 65 mb download !!! The only difference in the CD and the above files is that other software like HP Photosmart etc are not included. HP can only be HP -- Thanks again Archer |

I also find no .Net-dependent files in the package. As Paul said, you might try installing through the .inf file. You could then run the MSI, which *I think* will give you just the applet for managing the printer. But I don't know whether either of those things will work. |

It would probably take me many tries, to get a recipe like that exactly right. I think I'd try the INF install method, but after changing the .NET setting in the last line. As the .NET shouldn't be needed, except as a means to support the "cruft" components. I would also need to do more research on that "Ink Monitor" executable. I don't know if the presence of that thing, is a "plus" or a "minus". I do know that some inkjets like to clean the heads a lot, as a means to pump all the ink out of the cartridge. My own printer, I remove power as soon as the print job is finished. Paul |

Pity it refuses to work without downloading installing 2and 3 versions of .net Further it plays havoc with the registry - more than 1200 entries. Is there a driver that is simple and does not require .net Or is there a similar HP printer that has simple drivers - if available I do not mind throwing away this 1010 Any help will be greatly appreciated I got the exact driver referred to by VanguardLH - it gives an option to not install some minor things - but insists on downloading .net from M$ - around 60 mb. Having installed with this driver, I tried to save the bare drivers using a driver backup program. It is just about 19 mb. One problem is it refuses to copy the mtxr.dll file when I tried to install the printer in another XP machine. It went ok until it said it cannot copy the file "mtxr.dll" and does not complete the installation. The file is very much there in the drivers I saved ! Any further thoughts on this? Thanks to all those who responded and tried to help. Archer One possibility is that the driver backup program saved the file in a different directory. If this is the case, click "Browse", find and highlight the file and click "OK". Ben |
