Ping: Seth
"Seth" wrote in message ... Once you gave the correct information the answer was easy... Here's another one: Drag and drop URL shortcuts from the desktop always worked with past OSs with MozillaFirefox and IE. I keep more than a few favorite URLS on the desktop to quickly drag and drop into the address window in Firefox. The site comes right up (but not on W-7). Fast and easy, better than digging through the Bookmark folder. How can I get this to work on W-7 64-bit HomePremium? I can drag and drop the URLS/addresses to the desktop but can't drag and drop them back into the address bar/window of Firefox v. 3.6.10. When I try, nothing happens. No errors at first. Now I get this error: "There was a problem sending the command to the program" I get the same error when clicking on links in email and here on Usenet. Googling and checking the MS site brought no answers. Apparently W-7 is even less stable than Vista. Have you any idea what I can so about the newest W-7 problem of getting the text-only error "There was a problem sending the command to the program?" Googling and going to the MS website was a waste of time. I haven't found anything helpful on any of the forums or the MS site using their Bing search. |

Internet URL drag to address bar (was Ping: Seth)

Now I get this error: I have never heard of doing this and frankly don't see how it is easier cause if it's on the Desktop than any "Maximized" applications have to be "Minimized" or "Restored" to give you access to your desktop (or hitting the "Show desktop" icon in the Quick launch area which basically minimizes everything). I just find it easier to have things in Bookmarks (which I keep categorized, stuff sorted in folders and everything in alphabetical order), if I use it often enough, Firefox has the "Bookmark Bar" (on a default installation of Firefox that's the row of links directly above the row of currently open tabs and below the address bar), or in the START menu (either in program groups or "pinned") But to each their own... Just tried it on my XP with IE7 and it doesn't work there. Did I test it right? I made a shortcut to a website on my desktop, launched my browser then tried to drag the shortcut form my desktop to the address bar. If it's a shortcut on the desktop, why do you even need to drag it to the address bar of your browser? Can't you just double click it and focus will automatically transfer to your browser. So what does dragging the shortcut to your browser do for you? "There was a problem sending the command to the program" I get the same error when clicking on links in email and here on Usenet. Googling and checking the MS site brought no answers. Apparently W-7 is even less stable than Vista. I don't have a Vista client handy to test with (rebuilt all my Vista machines to Win7) but this isn't a case of being stable. Did the system crash? no. That would be a stability issue. Did the functionality change from what you expected, yes. Did it ever work like you describe? Possibly. I couldn't duplicate it on XP or Win7. Have you any idea what I can so about the newest W-7 problem of getting the text-only error "There was a problem sending the command to the program?" If it is a shortcut on your desktop, just double click it. That will get rid of the error. Oh, and don't address Usenet messages to me. Subject line should be relevant to the message and if I see it, I see it. I'm not your personal tech here just because I got to the bottom of one of your issues. When you pay me like my employer and/or clients, then you can address me directly. |

Internet URL drag to address bar (was Ping: Seth) (JOY!!!!!!!!!)

I just pull the open window down to reach the URL shortcut. But I did solve the problem of of that not working and being unable to click on links in mail or here by deleting all the MS updates starting from Oct 6th. Once they were gone and I rebooted. The problem was solved. However the modem and Themes problem was not. I just find it easier to have things in Bookmarks (which I keep categorized, stuff sorted in folders and everything in alphabetical order), if I use it often enough, Firefox has the "Bookmark Bar" (on a default installation of Firefox that's the row of links directly above the row of currently open tabs and below the address bar), or in the START menu (either in program groups or "pinned") For me it's faster to pull them off the desktop. My 5 most used are in the Intelli buttons on my keyboard. But to each their own... Just tried it on my XP with IE7 and it doesn't work there. Did I test it right? I made a shortcut to a website on my desktop, launched my browser then tried to drag the shortcut form my desktop to the address bar. It should work with either browser. It works with the version of IE that comes with W-7. If it's a shortcut on the desktop, why do you even need to drag it to the address bar of your browser? Can't you just double click it and focus will automatically transfer to your browser. So what does dragging the shortcut to your browser do for you? Double clicking works but sometimes I have other tabs open so MF is already open. D&D or DC will work. The "freezing" means instability to me more than anything. No freezes since I removed the Oct. MS updates. Did the functionality change from what you expected, yes. Did it ever work like you describe? Possibly. I couldn't duplicate it on XP or Win7.
