Is Windows Updates having problems right now?
Hello.
Is it me or is Windows Update having problems right now in connecting and downloading? I see this on two different 64-bit W7 EE SP1 machines and Internet connections. Thank you in advance. -- Quote of the Week: "Applied mathematics will always need pure mathematics, just as anteaters will always need ants." --Paul Halmos Note: A fixed width font (Courier, Monospace, etc.) is required to see this signature correctly. /\___/\ Ant(Dude) @ http://antfarm.home.dhs.org (Personal Web Site) / /\ /\ \ Ant's Quality Foraged Links: http://aqfl.net | |o o| | \ _ / Please nuke ANT if replying by e-mail privately. I don't have any problems here; Only he has the problem and now you seem to have the probem as well despite you not using Windows. Clearly this is not a windows problems, only the Internet connection problem as far as I can see. These people have installed all sorts of utilities because they have been brain washed by that Canadian "small boys abuser" that Microsoft is spying so they do all sorts of things to block Microsoft sites. Proper [default configurations] windows users don't have this problem. -- 1. /*This post contains rich text (HTML). if you don't like it then you can kill-filter the poster without crying like a small baby.*/ 2. /*This message is best read in Mozilla Thunderbird as it uses 21st century technology.*/ |

Despite Good Guy's smart aleck shenanigans... I suspect so. Couldn't get one machine to download, nor would WSUS Offline connect. I have told you not to delete any files without asking us but you seem to be so impatient that you have delete something from the machine almost daily. Is it time for you to go to Allah? Is Windows Updates having problems right now?
Running WIN 8.1, nothing deleted, nothing blocked - never had huge
problems with WU - until a about 2 weeks ago. Now, on a regular basis, getting updates is a PITA - Error codes out the wazoo - answer seems to be BITS or DEP. I run the fixit program, things are OK for a few days, then out the window they go - again. And just in case - scanned for virii, malware, in fact anything, shows up clean. I'll add a data point from yesterday. This is not a failure as such. Now, I have a pathetic Internet connection, which downloads at 312KB per second. I go to get a 5.8GB DVD from Microsoft, and the Firefox download window says the time to completion is "1 day, x hours". I look at the download rate, and its only 50KB or so, and varying quite a bit. I use the usual method, of dropping the connection and starting another, and the rate doesn't change. I use a tool which makes multiple connections, set it to eight connections, fully expecting the server to reject the embraces of such tools. But instead, the connections are accepted. Using a setting of 8 connections, I'm able to fill my tiny pipe, so the Microsoft download no longer says "1 day..." but something like five or six hours. The ISO had an available checksum, so I could verify it was indeed, a complete file. I even tried the Powershell trick, to harness BITS to do the download, and the download did not go any faster when done that way. Which was another test I carried out, before reaching for heavy artillery. And if this is resource conservation, it only appears to be approximate and not as "precise" as some companies manage to do on their servers. Paul |

Windows 8.1 to fix WU use the the command: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth Never run the /RestoreHealth command on Windows 8x without having already ran the /ScanHealth and /CheckHealth command line options. If these two don't report a components store corruption or a repairable component store then use the MSFT provided FixIt for Windows Update. IF the CheckHealth option reports the image as non-repairable then RestoreHealth will yield nothing. If not repairable, reinstall or reset Windows 8x. -- ...winston msft mvp windows experience |

FYI. It worked again after 4:30 PM PST on that day. I guess the servers
were being hammered or something. Ant wrote: Hello. Is it me or is Windows Update having problems right now in connecting and downloading?
