Hi Steve,

That kind of software is not part of the Operating System (either Win98 =
or WinXP), it is something the pc manufacturer added. The phone dialer =
program does just that - it dials the phone. For voice communications, =
you need a voice modem and supporting software.

The OE phone dialler is just that - it dials. it doesn't pass
the connection to PhoneTools. You have to use PhoneTools.

So did you install XP over 98? If so, PhoneTools should be there
and working. (well, mostly). Look for the exe file and try to
run it. On my system, it is at:
"C:\Program Files\PhoneTools\Phontool.exe"

If you did a clean install of XP, you will have to reinstall
PhoneTools from your original disks/CD.

I did a clean install of XP and reinstalled PhoneTools.

Under XP, everything works except the PhoneTools capture fax
printer, which failed to install. I just scan docs and then use
the "Attach Docs" facility. There is an update available from
BVRP but I haven't bothered with it. (see http://www.bvrp.com/)
