Connect 2 computers to transfer files?
I bought a new Sony VAIO with XP Home edition, and all my data files reside
on an older VAIO with Win98. The units both have a Sony i-Link (IEEE) connection and USB 2.0 (on the XP unit) and USB 1.0 (on the older VAIO unit). I s there any simple way to link them so that the new computer recognizes the hard drive on the older machine? Thanks in advance! |

OK, so the new VAIO has an Ethernet connection built in. I have 3Com USB
Network Interface that I can temporarily use from my cable company (as my old computer didn't have the built in Ethernet). Can I just get an RJ-45 connector and be "in business"? Do I really need a hub to transfer files? You don't need a hub for just two machines. With an ethernet card in both
pc's you can connect the two with a cat5 cable but it needs to be a crossover cable. Then you'll need to set up a network and you should have connectivity. "So'n'so" wrote in message ... Connect 2 computers to transfer files?
I remember a while ago someone at work told me that you could buy a USB
cable to temporarily connect two USB computers together. Maybe a search for USB cables with matching ends would be something to investigate. Connecting them together directly would create a peer to peer connection. My MS Networking Essentials textbook says it is easy, but I have a router so I've never tried it.
