Access Denied
I had to reload Windows XP and my preivous documents are
there for my wife's screen name but when trying to access my previous documents folder it says access is denied. The only difference between that I can tell is that I created my same user name and my previous doucuments folder is inside my new documents folder. How can I get past this, I even went to the dos prompt to try to access the foler and it still said access denied. Any suggestions. Thanks |

Look up "take ownership" in your Help & Support. Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" |

Hi,
They are "owned" by the previous installation's user. It's more than just a name thing, meaning just using the same username is not enough, it's related to SID's (Secure ID's). Anyhow, provided they weren't encrypted, you simply need to retake ownership: HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP [Q308421] http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421 -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers aka "Nutcase" MS-MVP - Win9x Windows isn't rocket science!
