Default How did you create this newsgroup?

Hello,

Since this newsgroup must've been made in recent years, I'd like to ask how you even
go about creating newsgroups -- I've never accomplished that, and material on that
matter is sparse and quite old, Though I never used a paid Usenet access to try to
do it.

Many thanks,

Alpatron

USENET is divided into a number of domains.

Big-8 newsgroups comp.sys.apple.general
Complicated, lengthy procedure, filled with
troll entertaining and voting procedure.
Signed newgroup() issued from headquarters, group
automatically added to all servers (unless signed
additions are turned off). High barrier to entry,
efficient propagation.

Alt.* newsgroups alt.comp.os.windows-10
Informal method involving contacting administrator
of server. Contact server administrators one at
a time. You must convince the admin the group
will have traffic. Creating alt.jimmy.is.a.putz
won't work, because the naming convention of your
group is wrong, and your group doesn't have a
a charter (a narrow definition of what is on topic).
You will notice that there are some conflicting
recently created group names, where two groups
discuss the same matters, but use different naming
conventions. This would *never* be allowed in a
Big-8 group.

Note. This group is not in groups.google.com , and
we don't have an administrator contact there. The group
posts are not archived in groups.google.com. Neither can
you post to this group, from groups.google.com.

Low(er) barrier to entry. Poor/inefficient propagation.

microsoft.* read/write, orphan, cannot add groups ever again...
mozilla.* read only, orphan (connection cut at Mozilla end)
uk.* actively managed, has own group creation and
destruction rules similar to Big-8 management board.
Private hierarchy is run by Brits.

So those are some examples.

Around 100,000 "alt.jimmy.is.a.putz" groups were removed years
ago, in a purge. The administrator will not be amused if
you try that now. Because the administrator will remember the
mess from the old days.

newgroup(), rmgroup() does not work in alt.* . It's all been
switched off. This is why we contact administrators manually
via email. If you try to create alt.baloney.slicing then you
have to convince the administrator there will be a *lot*
of baloney slicing. As otherwise, two years from now, the
admin might have to waste time purging it. If a traffic check
shows zero traffic, it'll get put on a list for deleting.
If the only purpose of alt.baloney.slicing is a troll hangout,
then the administrator will use his/her sixth sense to detect
your evil plan.

If the "Alpatron" user doesn't have a posting history, this makes
it harder for the admin to agree to your (evil) plan. Say
for example, you proposed alt.rec.arts.tv and you happened
to be a known loudmouth troublemaker over in rec.arts.tv.
That would seal your fate. Not only would your group be
rejected for the right reasons (duplication of Big-8 group), but
you'd also receive a "troll rejection slip" for your dishonest
intentions.

+1

BTW, does anyone know if news admins still check isc.org for control
messages in 2019?
