They are desperate to get more users of their newsgroup. Just make sure you ask them Windows questions !!!!. -- /*This post contains rich text (HTML). if you don't like it then you can kill-filter the poster without crying about it like a small baby so that you don't see this poster's posts ever again.*/ /*This message is best read in Mozilla Thunderbird as it uses 21st century technology.*/ |

The groups list was also modified, and he is using a standard group list of some sort. That means "custom" items like alt.windows7.general were removed. Check aioe.news.helpdesk for latest status. I really doubt he is going to do a "delta" and figure out what got lost. So it's going to take some "complaining" to put it all back. Paul |

OldGuy wrote: Seems to be having problems. Especially the alt.windows7.general seems dead. Is OK through other news services. The group has been put back on AIOE. The server article numbers will not match the article numbers in your newsreader. So it's possible the group will still appear "dead". You will have to work on your news client program to fix that. For Seamonkey/Thunderbird, it's possible you will have to remove contents from the AIOE folder and start again. Some news clients, if you unsubscribe and re-subscribe a group, the article numbering is fixed for free. It doesn't work that way on Thunderbird, and so you'd need to manually intervene, setting all the entries in the newsrc to 1-1 or similar, flushing all the .msf and .dat files and so on. nntp.aioe.org.rc alt.windows7.general: 1-123938 would become alt.windows7.general: 1-1 As the client program connects to the server and articles are read, the second number will advance. (It's more complicated than that...) And these files keep track of headers or something. And may be indexed by article number. You would think they could be re-indexed (by MID). alt.windows7.general.dat 27 bytes \___ remove and alt.windows7.general.msf 42,508,464 bytes / start over? I haven't even connected to AIOE since this change, as I expect there is a "big mess" waiting for me. I use AIOE as the backup server, in case E-S is out of commission. Paul |

With all the talk about backup on this newsgroup ya woulda thunk ... Anyway, I disconnect and reconnected and no have 10 posts ... only. Fortunately I am also using freenews.netfront.net And that one seems to have problems once in a while too. E S is OK I guess but for some reason I rather use AIOE or Freenews. Thanks for the feedback! Now I know what to do. Wonder why that newsgroup go hit especially hard? Onward ... |

new.aioe.org problem
Looks like AIOE has killed off many of the past posts of all newsgroups.
Searching nightmare. Hopefully other services will remain viable. It will take some work to rebuild here on my several PCs. UnSubscribe and Subscribe. And AIOE was the most reliable of the services I use. Rant over. --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: --- |
