Default Windows Messenger interferes with media buttons on Natural Keyboard Pro

While Windows Messenger is loaded (4.7 or 5.0, possibly earlier
version) my media buttons (Prev Track, Next Track, Media, Stop,
Play/Pause) on my Natural Keyboard Pro do not function. As soon as I
exit Messenger, the buttons then work.

Anybody else notice this behavior or know how to fix it so I can keep
media player up (and useful) while Messenger is loaded?
