Default Not installing properly?

Do you also have Outlook 97 installed? If so, it breaks keys in the
registry re the default mail program. You can try re-registering the
program by doing the following:

Go to Start | Run and type the following:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK EXPRESS\MSIMN.EXE" /reg
(Check the path to msimn.exe to make sure that is correct)

Make certain to include the quotations marks and the space between the
ending quotation mark and the slash.

Then open Internet Explorer and go to Tools\Internet Options\Programs and
set OE as the default mail (and news) program.

Although my OE seemingly works fine, frequently I get a message saying it
is not properly installed, or that it's not the default mail program,
although I have no other.

When I look in IE/Tools/Internet Options/Programs OE is listed as the
default Newsgroup program, but the mail program is empty, and the
drop-down has nothing in it.

I've tried downloading and reinstalling IE, but nothing changed. And when
I click the Read Mail in the IE, nothing happens. I have to open the OE
with a short-cut.
