Are you sure you *HAVE* Word? No operating system has ever included any MS
Office application. Is this a new system? If so, look at your documentation
and it should tell you what was included. You may only have Works, which
doesn't include Word, only its own - rather basic - word processor. You may
have the Works Suite, which does contain Word or you may have the Small
Business Edition of Office which contains Word, Outlook, Excel and
Publisher. If you cannot find Word, you may not have installed it. Again,
browse the documentation that was included in the box.

If none of the above apply, then you'll have to purchase it. When you say
you need to write a paper, are you at school or college? If so, you can
purchase Office XP at a vastly reduced rate - look here

licensing restrictions apply to the Students and Teachers Edition. For

I am struggling with limited information - maybe you would be so kind as to
post back and tell us how you came by Windows XP (I assume you're running XP
as this is an XP-related group). Did you purchase it retail and then perform
a clean installation (in which case you need only reinstall Office from the
discs). Did you upgrade - in which case the application may still be there,
but a repair installation is most likely necessary.

Post back - and someone will most likely be able to assist you further.
