For XP Home, the Backup utility is not installed by default.

HOW TO: Install Backup from the CD-ROM in Windows XP Home Edition

If your computer came with a "recovery" CD or CD set, you may or may not
have this option available to you. If not, contact the PC manufacturer and
ask them to provide you with an installable version, or the backup files.

If you wish to do a full system backup then do not use the Backup Utility
that ships on the XP Home CD. It cannot not do a full system backup or
Automated System Restore. The version that ships with XP Pro can but not

the
one that ships with the Home version.

Powerquest Drive Image 2002 from www.powerquest.com is a decent app and
similar to Ghost with a nice GUI.
However "Image" from www.terabytesunlimited.com is a fraction of the cost
and will do all that is required when making full system backups either to
file or to CD-R. It will even prompt you to erase CD-R/W when spanning
multiple disks and the free TBIViewer will enable you to extract

individual
files from an image.
