HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\UnreadMail. In
the right pane modify: MessageExpiryDays Change it to 0.

I just added Office XP, but the login icon on the main
desktop screen (with profiles) still shows the "unread
messages" numbers from Outlook Express, not outlook, even
though outlook is the default email.

How do I redirect this?
