- Make OE load MSN Messenger instead of Windows Messenger...
That worked! Thanks, Jim!
"Jim Pickering" wrote in message ... In Outlook Express, under View/Layout, if you have the Display of Contacts checked, Messenger will start so that it can show you which of your contacts are online. It's a design flaw in the program. You can disable the display of Contacts and uncheck the start up of messenger and it should do it. Also check by clicking Start/Run and type: MSCONFIG then looking on the Startup tab and uncheck any option for it. (msmsgs.exe) -- Jim Pickering MVP-Outlook Express |

Actually, while that solution might work, there is a much simpler one that
does not require registry tweaking. Jim Pickering just sent it to me, and I will paste it right back at you : In Outlook Express, under View/Layout, if you have the Display of Contacts checked, Messenger will start so that it can show you which of your contacts are online. It's a design flaw in the program. You can disable the display of Contacts and uncheck the start up of messenger and it should do it. I just tried it, and it really does work. Just click the small X on top of the Messenger contact list pane within OE. "Whistling Rabbit" wrote in message ... I answered this to a very similar question below: "The default for Windows Messenger is to start with Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. You can turn off Windows Messenger temporarilly by going to Start, Run and typing "net stop messenger" but you will have to do this every time Windows XP starts. If you try to uninstall Messenger this will remove Outlook Express. What to do if you want to uninstall Windows Messenger but keep Outlook Express? I found the solution at http://www.ashampoo.com with PowerUp XP. This utility will edit the registry to start Outlook Express or Internet Explorer without the Windows Messenger. Then Windows Messenger can be safely removed." "Bern Harrison" wrote in message ... Outlook Express automatically loads Windows Messenger when called. Any way to change that to MSN Messenger? I have both and I hate having both loaded when OE is called. Actually, if I could turn of ANY messenger loading when calling OE, that would be fine too. |
