Open device mgr, expand the sound tree,R.click on all sound hardware (one
at a time),select "uninstall".Once all have been uninstalled & w/o restarting pc after each, close out device mgr, shutdown pc..If you have a sound card installed, move it to another pci slot (unplug pc from electrical outlet),once thru,& if you use on-board sound, wait a few minutes, start pc.XP will reinstall the sound hardware ... First download the drivers for your Sound card or Chip from
the manufacture's web. Warning: Never use Windows Update to install or update drivers, Next open Device Manager and uninstall/remove the drivers for the sound card. Shut down the PC an then remove the sound card. Now Power up and use device manager to verify that Windows does not see any sound card. Power down and reinstall the sound card. Power up and when Windows identifies that a new device exist (sound card), specify where the driver file you downloaded is located on your hard disk and then let Windows install the new drivers from that location. The solution that works for me is: Control Panel Sounds and Audio Devices; Uncheck "Place volume icon in the taskbar", and press Apply; Now, Check the same "Place volume icon in the taskbar", and Apply. The volume icon should now appear in the Systray. Press OK. |
