Default Pre-loaded Windows XP

Hi,
I bought my laptop 4 years ago with preloaded windows XP.
I want to format it now but the problem is that I will be losing my original
copy of windows XP. I dont have the Windows CD and I dont think the CD came
with the computer. Is there away to reinstall my windows without paying for a
new one?

Thank you.

If the laptop was shipped without a CD, the OEM probably (i. e. should have)
furnished a repair partition which will set the computer back to the as
delivered state.
The fine manual should describe this capability and how to access it.

If not, the your situation is rather desparate. You not only need an
installation CD, but you also need a CD which contains drivers for the
equipment on the laptop. You can only get this CD from the manufacturer.
You see, while the installation CD will boot, it only furnishes generic
drivers. It is extremely irritating to use a system with only generic
drivers.

In essences, you need to contact the manufacturer for assistance.

It is possible that there is a recovery partition on the drive. Consult the
documentation that came with the laptop to see how to do this.
