Default text highlighting not working right

Windows 8.1 Pro.

Whether I'm using Notepad or Firefox or my newsreader, I can select
text for copying/pasting but the text highlighting does not work. The
cut/copy function works; just not the text highlighting.

Using Google, I found some similar problems reported, but none could
explain the problem or how to fix it. It seemed erratic. On my pc, it
happens consistently. I recall that at one point I could select text,
and it would be highlighted. Unfortunately, I forget what I changed
leading to my current problem.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, and how did you fix it?

You've been playing with Selected items and/or Hyperlink options in
Personalization\Window Color\Advanced settings.
Reset them both to blue.

THanks. That worked. It's so nice to be able to see what I'm
highlighting for copying, cutting and/or pasting elsewhere.

Is there a site that discusses these settings in greater detail, with
perhaps screenshots to show the effects?

Try googling for "Advanced personalize settings in Windows 7".
This one as a starter;
http://www.7tutorials.com/geeky-way-...windows-themes

You can have great fun just messing about. Backup before starting.
You can also load whole themes that come with Win7; or google for lots
more that people have created and want to share.
