Desktop Icons won't move
On 11/1/13 I went from Windows 7 HP to Windows 8 Pro to Windows
8.1 Pro with Start8 in one afternoon. Under Windows 7 I had also installed Stardock.com's Fences (version 2.01) which allows me to corral my desktop icons into logical groupings. I could drag my icons into appropriate groupings and move icons within those groupings. I could also rearrange icons that weren't grouped on the desktop. All was well. Recently, however, when I try to move an icon around on the desktop or into a group, as soon as I left-click and start to drag the icon, a "no circle" - a circle with a diagonal bar in it - appears and replaces the cursor and the icon won't move. Any ideas how I can get my icons to move? Thanks in advance for your help. |

At their FAQ site: http://esupport.stardock.com/index.p...dex/115/fences "lock" doesn't find anything. They do not provide an online copy of the product's manual for non-users to review their product's features. You are claiming their help or manual included with their product doesn't tell you about the lock icon function mentioned in the ehow article? |

wrote: Hi, Kirk. What is your setting for icons on your Desktop? Right-click on the Desktop and look at its View context menu. Do you have it set to Auto arrange icons? RC I was having other arcane problems with my icons, like suddenly the icons that used to live on the lefthand border of my desktop suddenly having moved to the middle of my screen, so I'd changed the setting to Auto Arrange which caused them to move back to the left border. Right now, the only items checked on my Icon sorting is "none," but the icons still won't move. The "View" settings are Classic Icons, Align icons to grid, and Show Desktop Icons. Icons still no move without Cut and Paste. |

But my icons still won't move. The URLs you provided mainly reference the Lock Fences feature. My problem is that the fences are locked while the Lock Fences item is unchecked. I tried locking and unlocking them without positive result. I have posted a query with Stardock.com Support hoping that they would respond with a solution. |

I've tried checking it, trying to move icons, then unchecking it and trying to move icons. The icons won't move in either the checked of the unchecked position. |
