Two Routers Continued
Not going well.
Powered off the ATT unit and kept off during all Amped operations. The is an obvious conflict between the ATT and Amped (at it default UP of 192.168.3.1 for internet access but not access to a NAS attached the Amped). Cat5 from laptop to Amped R20000G WiFi Router. Accessed its webpage at 192.168.3.1 (the reset default). The ATT is set as follows: Access 192.168.1.254 DCHPv4 Range 192.168.1.64 to 192.168.1.253 (power still off) Tried to set Amped to 192.168.1.2 and DCHP disabled. It took the change input and booted on apply. Used the Amped suggested browser: Chrome Tried to access the Amped at 192.168.1.2 but no go. Tried to access the Amped at the browser host name but no go. Tried the reset IP, no go. Tried several IP addresses but no go. Reset to factory defaults. Opened Amped webpage again at 192.168.3.1 (default) Found a firmware update was available and uploaded and booted. Firmware update was evident on entry at the default 192.168.3.1 But trying to set the IP to 192.168.1.2 again failed and I was kept out. Reset to factory defaults and got in again at 192.168.3.1 The Amped just does not want me to change the access IP. Any suggestions to get the Amped to the 192.168.1.2 please? Read the Amped R20000G manual and do not find any help there. --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: --- |

I don't know the answer to your question, but if anyone else wants to direct you to a page in your Amped manual, it can be accessed from this page http://www.ampedwireless.com/support/model/r20000g.html as http://www.ampedwireless.com/datashe...UsersGuide.pdf That is 92 pp. The 2 p. setup guide isn't enough. -- Mike Easter |

Read the Amped R20000G manual and do not find any help there. At a point where you're able to directly connect to the Amped router and connect at its default address of 192.168.3.1, that tells me that your PC has an IP address in the 192.168.3.x range. Then, when you change the Amped to 192.168.1.2, your PC is still using a 192.168.3.x IP, which of course is now on a different subnet. So the trick is, when you change the router IP, you need to also change the PC IP so that you're once again on the same subnet as the router. Since you're disabling DHCP in the Amped router, you'll need to manually change your PC's IP address. (Don't worry, we'll reset it to use DHCP afterwards.) Right click the Network icon in your Notification Area and select to Open the Network and Sharing Center. Click on Change Adapter Settings. Right click on your network adapter, usually called Ethernet, and select Properties. Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). You'll see that 'Obtain an IP address automatically' is selected. Click the radio button immediately below that, called 'Use the following IP address'. Enter an IP address in the 192.168.1.x subnet, perhaps 192.168.1.10, then when you hit the Tab key the Subnet mask should populate with 255.255.255.0. Fix it if it didn't fill in properly. Leave 'Default gateway' blank, you don't need it for this exercise. (You'll have no Internet access without a Default Gateway, but that's fine for now.) Click OK until you're all the way out. Now you can connect to your router at its new address of 192.168.1.2. When you get to the point where you're reconnecting the Amped to the ATT router, you'll want to reset your PC to 'Obtain an IP address automatically'. Go in like you did above, click the proper radio button, and OK your way out. Your PC should request a new IP address and the ATT router should provide it. Done! Let us know how it goes. -- Char Jackson |

Thank you so much for keeping with me and pushing me along.
Now that I understand better what is going on I ahve to ask if booting the laptop would cause it to realign to the new IP? Yes, I am hardwired to the Amped and that only so I should be OK for this. WiFi switch is OFF. I will get back later today when I get a chance to sit down and concentrate and try your solution. --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: --- |

If this is the scenario: Amped router disconnected from the ATT router, Amped router DHCP disabled, Amped router just had its IP changed, then rebooting the laptop won't regain access to the Amped router because there is no DHCP server available. That's why you have to either a) manually change your laptop IP address, or, b) reconnect the ATT router before rebooting the laptop. In b) above, the laptop should get an IP address in the proper subnet, but it'll come from the DHCP server in the ATT router. Yes, I am hardwired to the Amped and that only so I should be OK for this. WiFi switch is OFF. I will get back later today when I get a chance to sit down and concentrate and try your solution. Suggestion: keep one topic in the same thread, rather that spawning
multiple threads. It's not the end of the world, but it's mildly rude to those of us who have no interest in a particular topic and killfile it, only to find it coming back. -- Stan Brown, Oak Road Systems, Tompkins County, New York, USA http://BrownMath.com/ http://OakRoadSystems.com/ Shikata ga nai... |

Two Routers Continued
Got the IP changed, finally.
Laptop Cat5 to Amped: Set the Amped 192.168.1.2 to the desired IP. DCHP disabled. Disconnected this. Established ATT Cat5 to ATT that laptop reassigned to the desired 192.168.1.x. Reconnected the Amped Cat5 to ATT. Laptop now got in to Amped at 192.168.1.2 so set up the parameters like SSID and password. So set SSID different on 2GHz. Is that good or bad or OK? Still unsure of "correct" way. I have WiFi cams that I need to connect. Will have to use WPS for those. Some will WPS to Amped and some will WPS to ATT. Then WPS off on both routers. SSID on Amped 5GHz is unique and I have no other 5GHz "transmitters". I do have a laptop that can use 5GHz so I want to use that. Thanks again for all your help. I hope all of this will help others take the challenge and do something similar. I am now trying to figure out why the Win 7 PC (Cat5 to ATT) to Win XP Pro (WiFi to ATT) is 10x slower than before when using the Amped with DSL. So this is a LAN problem only. The only thing changed is the ATT. Even disconnecting the Amped ha no effect on this LAN speed. The Win 7 Cat5 to ATT is super Internet fast. Another laptop Win7 Cat5 to ATT is also super Internet fast. Both get 50Gbits up and 5Gbits down. I like that. |

Keeping the same thread gets very difficult to follow due to people
posting comments that are not relevant or going way off track or not reading the previous posts which are usually way out of order at least n my newsreader MesNews. So I post a new thread when the events are significant enough to want to stand out from previous somewhat related threads. That helps me follow the discussion and I suspect others too. But you must be much smarter than me to be able to follow those long convoluted threads. I cannot! |
