Default Clone Question

Say I have a bad laptop HHD that seems only to have a bad boot area
such that it hangs most of the time but one in a great while it boots
to Win 7 and everything looks good until the next boot attempt.

1)Is it likely that I can repair the boot area and that is all it
needs?

2) If I use Macrium Reflect Free 6 to repair the boot area when only
booting from the MRF6 CD, will that repair last?

3) If I use MRF6 to boot and do a clone, does the bad boot area come
along with the clone such that when I restore to a new HDD I overwrite
the boot area with the bad boot area from the clone?

4) Is there a CD that I can keep in the CD drive to simply do the boot
to the existing Win 7 that is still working on this bad HDD? i.e. a
boot area only on the CD that then transfers to the HDD?

5) Once cloned and restored to another new HDD what is the best tool to
use to get the boot area proper?

This presupposes either (a) you cannot afford $50 for a reliable
HDD or (b) the hours to be spent attempting repair are worth
less than $50 and (c) the data cannot otherwise be copied
and is worth more than $50.

The quick fix is;
1. Get a Win7 repair disc (or an install disc); don't forget 32 or
64-bit type.
2. Delete the boot files from the HD.
3. Boot from the disc & choose "system repair" which will set up new
boot files in good sectors.

However, a HD going bad can get worse. They often do.
I'd follow this cautious path;
1. Do a full backup of the HD with MacRef.
2. Carry out 1-3 above.
3. Clone that HD to a new HD with MacRref.
4. Take out the old, put in the new.

Do we think this is due to bad hardware or bad software?

How is this done? I'm guessing MBR but me personally, I'm not sure how that's done.

Best to use a utility. EasyBCD can do it;

I was hoping for $50 worth of education!

The advice you get on Usenet is worth exactly what you paid for it.
