Hi nospam,

I know you well where anyone can predict years in advance that you'll claim
Apple software works better than does essentially any other software...

But it's clear you don't even believe half of what you, yourself, claim.
o You do it simply because you _always_ claim Apple products are better.

That's what makes you _different_ than the other apologists out there.
o You post as if you (figuratively) get paid by Apple MARKETING per post

Anyway, I wrote the tutorials, where I proved it works rather well.
a. Dual boot to Ubuntu & plug in the iOS device & agree to trust
b. Slide files back & forth (read/write) to/from Windows, iOS, & Linux

This is from my _oldest_ tutorial, where in those days (a few years ago),
you had to run a couple of commands on Linux which you no longer need as of
Ubuntu 18.04 (based on my tests from a while ago).

Here are the screenshots, for example, from that first tutorial long ago:

Yes, just use your charger chord to connect via USB. Copy/paste.
**** iTunes.

I have my iPhone SE, running iOS 13.5.1, connected to this laptop,
running Win10 2004. The iPhone does not show up as a volume in File
Explorer. The iPhone does not show up in Disk Management. The iPhone
does show in iTunes and is reachable using iCloud. Hmm.

I have now disconnected my iPhone SE and replaced it with my iPhone
6, running iOS 12.4.something. The iPhone 6 also does not show up in
File Explorer or Disk Management and again does show up in iTunes and
is again reachable using iCloud. Hmmm.

Maybe it's the cable... try a different cable. Same results. Hmmm.

Perhaps there's a problem with the port. Try a different port. Same
results. Hmmm.

Perhaps I'm doing it wrong. Pray elaborate.

"Choose whether [iPhone is] to trust a computer"

If you downloaded iTunes for Windows from the
Microsoft Store, make sure that iTunes Mobile Device Helper
is enabled as a startup item."

I set the phone to trust the computer. Nothing showed in File Explorer
or Disk Management.

I found a description of the Trust and pairing here.

"Forensic Implications of iOS Lockdown (Pairing) Records"

https://blog.elcomsoft.com/2016/11/f...iring-records/

About Lockdown Records (Pairing Records)

Lockdown records, or pairing records, are files that are stored
on the computer to which the iOS device syncs to. These files are
created the first time the user connects their iOS device to a PC
that has *iTunes* installed.

Lockdown records are used to re-establish a pairing relationship
between the computer and iOS device, allowing the user to
conveniently sync their iPhone by simply connecting it to their
computer and without having to manually unlock the device every time.

Where Lockdown Records Are Stored

Lockdown records are saved in the following locations:

Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, Windows 10:

%ProgramData%\Apple\Lockdown

Windows XP:

%AllUsersProfile%\Application Data\Apple\Lockdown

macOS:

/var/db/lockdown

It's always possible to click the "Trust" thing every time
I suppose. As an alternative to having the .msi from iTunes
that handles it. You could test that.

*******

Windows 7 has "Import pictures and video". For PTP devices.

https://superuser.com/questions/2290...-import-wizard

*******

For uploading files from PC to iPhone
(Photo Library, or even less likely, Camera Roll), it's
"the Apple way or no way".

Hi musika,

I realize you posted purposefully helpfully, which adds its risks.
o So please do not think this a chastisement; just an observation.

*Native, on Windows, over USB, the "functionality" with iOS sucks.*
Native, on Linux, over USB, the "functionality" with iOS, is great.
(HINT: Its' read _and_ write on Linux to the entire visible file system!)

Notice, on Windows, native (i.e., no additional software):
1. On Android, as MTP, you get access to the entire visible file system.
2. On iOS, you get access to almost nothing (e.g., just to "DCIM").

That sucks.
o *Functionality on Windows over USB for iOS stinks like you can't believe.*

The solution for the Windows ignorati is to 'add iTunes', which, as noted:
a. Adds horrifically designed immense bloatware like you can't believe
b. Adds vulnerabilities Apple is known to have never sufficiently tested
c. Actually hinders functionality that you'd have _without_ iTunes

In my humble opinion, anyone who _accepts_ that horrid iOS functionality
o Is simply using both the iOS device and Windows, as mere child's toys.

I can copy pics/videos fine from iphone to W10, using the latter's
file explorer or its Photos program. No go on the reverse. iCloud
seems my best bet.
Thanks for ur reply.

Hi
,

It's humiliating to have to resort to the cloud to do things that simple.

I don't know you, where you might just be Panthera Tigris Altaica, which,
if so, it's not worth much of my time to respond as it will fall on clogged
ears if that's the case.

If your ears are open, and, even so, for the benefit of the others whose
ears are open, the first thing you have to realize is that with iOS, you're
almost completely doomed (if you have any experience with Android).

Bidirectional copy with the entire Android visible file system just works.
o For iOS, it sucks like you can't believe (by way of comparison).

So, the first thing you have to realize is that you'll always have less
functionality with iOS interfacing with Windows than with Android.

The only way I know of, to get the same freedom of interaction of Android
with iOS, is to boot Windows to Linux, and then, believe it or not, you can
copy directly from Window to iOS and vice versa.

Notice very clearly that's not a typo.
o You can copy from Windows to iOS & vice versa, while booted to Linux.

If you're gonna use the "cloud", then you're already doomed for many
reasons, not the least of which is the cloud is not encrypted:
o iCloud backups are NOT encrypted, by badgolferman
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/misc.phone.mobile.iphone/-EA9TYUeVhk

Nor is the iCloud free for the amount of data you'll likely have
o Where it's just ridiculous to rent your data back from Apple

Nor is it reasonable to store _any_ of your data on the cloud (IMHO)
o Do people of reasonable technical ability store their private data
on the Internet (if so, for what gain?)
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/misc.phone.mobile.iphone/E0TkTd-zLuk

It's always been the case that if you have to resort to using the Internet
in order to copy your files from your mobile device to your PC, you've
already lost everything (because it's so humiliating to do that).

According to nospam, anything Apple always works, is always perfect
and without any flaws.

Then we have someone like the OP for which it ("W10 to Iphone6") does
*not* work. Is nospam helping? Is nospam providing *any* setup,
troubleshooting, etc., information? Of course not, as usual he's all
talk and no substance. And in the meantime, he's belittling those who
*are* trying to help. Pathetic.

i never said anything remotely close to that.

apple products have problems just like anything else.

the issue is that some people who *don't* use the products in question
guess at how things work and are almost always completely wrong.

as usual, your blame is misplaced.

i offered several suggestions.

it then went off the rails about wildly irrelevant and incorrect
things, including trust pairing and how it works as well as the
contents of the itunes installer package.

That is SO funny.
That's why I won't ever consider buying an iPhone, no matter how evil

I had an iPhone 3. I remember playing with iTunes. Will never happen

it's not a particularly good reason, since it's the same with an iphone:
