I did a clean install of 8 then installed 8.1 and now when I installed
google drive the icon won;t show in the lower right corner or windows explorer either......... I tried re-installing it, google has a folder for it in the C:drive, it just doesn't do anything (the desktop app) any ideas or workarounds? Thanks in ad-cyrus-vance |

Thanks in ad-cyrus-vance I was able to google the solution! from a google group participant... "I FIXED IT!!!1 Here's an explanation as to the user's limit of 11 icon overlays: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/the-ov...s-in-windows-7 The overlay icons are all defined under: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers After taking a backup of this part of my registry, I deleted the icons I don't use, quit Google Drive, restarted explorer, and reopened Google Drive - and the icons showed up! In order to get the number of overlay icons in the registry down to 11, I had to delete one called EnhancedStorageShell and two Dropbox ones. To find out what icon each one actually is: Search the registry for the hex string inside the key's value Open the key inside the result (InProcServer32) and copy the value (the DLL path) Create a new folder on the desktop Right-click - Properties - Customize - Change Icon Paste the DLL path into the address field and hit Enter Note what icon(s) are displayed Good luck!" In my case I deleted Sugarsync since I uninstalled that and Revo didn't quite get all the leftovers, plus one other unneeded one (EnhancedStorageShell) Amazing how fast one can find the answer to a problem if you do a little research. |
