Win 8, desktop icon placement.
Hi, Mathedman.
This feature has not changed since WinXP - or Win9x? In the Desktop view (not the Metro/Modern interface), just right-click any blank space on the desktop. From the context menu that pops up, choose View and then, on the next pop-up, be sure that Auto arrange icons is NOT checked. Then they should stay where you put them. But note that there are several more options in these context menus. Explore a little and you might find some that you like better. ;) Oh, and to get to the blank desktop from just about anywhere, click the small rectangle at the very far right end of your Taskbar. (Unless you've moved your Taskbar from its default bottom location.) RC -- R. C.
