This looks good to me. As I do, it recommends Start8. And it explains
why it finds it better than the other choices.

Hi, Ken.

Did you intend to include a link? ;^}

I've become comfy with Win8.1 as is, warts and all, but I'm sure many
regulars here (and others) will want that URL.

What? Join another mailing list??? No, thanks. Besides if you google

how to make windows 8 look like windows 7

I'll bet you get the same information.

(Besides, as a retired person, I could not truthfully fill out their
application form if I wanted to! :-) )

Besides, looks like their navigation or server scripts are screwed up.
I went to:

http://whitepapershg.tradepub.com/fr...ecc06/prgm.cgi

Then clicked on the "Detailed Description" link that took me to:

http://whitepapershg.tradepub.com/fr...06/?p=w_tecc06

Clicked on the "Request Now" button which took me back to the first
page. That first page doesn't have, for me, any other links to get
their eGuide.

They're using tracking links to LinkedIn that I block using the
EasyPrivacy blacklist. I'm not going to unblock my tracking blocks so
they can track me while I signup for a fluff account or dole out an
e-mail (which would be an alias and never a true e-mail address to sites
like this).

Did you even read their so-called "privacy" policy? Look under the
"Information Collection and Use". They tell you they're selling your
e-mail address to spammers. When you create an account or give them an
e-mail address, they will, gee, automatically opt you into their mailing
lists. Yeah, no thanks. I could easily kill the alias that I give them
but I'm not going to bother for duplicated information they harvested
from online.

Since I'm currently in the process of getting a win 8.1 Lenova
ultrabook/tablet to behave more or less sort of like a win 7 notebook
in one mode, and a touch tablet in the other, this sort of thread is
timely, although not really of much help.
The ultrabook has a "4k" screen. This is the start of the difficulity,
in that getting the text sizes and picture/video sizes to display in a
readable and usable manner seems to be more complicated than it should
be. The correct combination of system settings and app settings is
involved. Sometimes they conflict, sometimes they don't.

It's taken several days to load updates, from the BIOS level to too many
win 8.1 updates, to applications and updates. And, I still don't have
all the key apps loaded.

As usual with such things, Lenovo information is skimpy, and I'm having
to go through preloaded and "optional" apps to see what is useful, and
what to ignore or uninstall. The first app to be uninstalled, naturally,
was Macafee. Next was a trial version of office 2010, since it was not
compatible with the office 2013 install process.

Always something, I guess!

The problem with the title "How to Make Windows 8 or 8.1 Look and Feel
Like Windows 7" is that, as we have seen time and again, the response
is "If I want something that looks and feels like Windows 7, I'll just
stay with (or go back to) Windows 7."

Something titled "How to Configure Windows 8 or 8.1 to Meet Your Needs
and Wants", that never mentions Windows 7, would be a best seller or
most read freebie.

If the configurations end up looking or feeling like Win7, it's just
happenstance rather than the goal.

+1.

(And I use StartIsBack http://www.startisback.com/, to add to the list
:-) )
